After a few weeks of thinking, I decided to use simple melodies for the sound effects of my product. Here I will use software that I learned in year 1 - FL Studio to make sound effects.
In order to let users know what this wireless charger is for, I decided to add a slogan to the body.
Here are the slogans I came up with:
A fulfilling day starts with self-regulation
Putting down the phone is the first step to self-regulation
Self-regulation is the key to success
At first, I wanted to put the slogan on it, but then for aesthetic reasons, I wanted to put the product's name and slogan under the fuselage. But I think I still need to put some instructions on the body so that users will know how to use this product, so I plan to add a slogan with similar instructions under the wireless charging logo.

After deciding on the slogan and logo, I started to test engrave. Meanwhile, I also use laser machine to cut out 2 small pieces of acrylic to test. I used sandpaper to sand its surface and see how its outcome.
After the test, I started to sand the acrylic on the phone doc. But after that, I realize the first acrylic I laser cut out is not fixed to the top cover because when I laser cut the top cover, it will be burned some space (because the top cover material is wood). So, I laser cut again the acrylic part (I made it bigger a bit and sanded the unnecessary part). After that, I used foams to fill under the acrylic because I didn't want people to be able to see the wires under the acrylic. At the same time, it has a block of foams, the light will not be too sharp.
I sanded the edges of the top cover and stick it on the body. And here is the final outcome.
Last but not least, I changed the light effects. Now turning the light on and off will fill in with the melody.
I tried to change a bit my concept because after I listen to my lecturer's feedback. My lecturer said it's better to have a sound effect when the user is self-regulating. So, I was thinking if the phone dock has 2 modes, one is normal wireless charging, another one is self-regulation wireless charging. Therefore, I can have more sound effects to apply in my product, which are Open SFX, Self-regulation SFX, Warning SFX, and Shut Down SFX. However, after consulting the lecturer, my lecturer said this would be different from what I originally intended. Because now users have options, they can choose not to use the self-regulation feature. But my purpose is to let people know how to self-regulate. So, I gave up using this concept and using the previous concept. At the same time, I received some feedback from my peers, some of them said that the prototype 2.0's light line should be wider. Some of them think the outcome will too big, and suggested I can create another version of...
Based on two designs from last week, I chose to use trees as my design concept. Concept (Tree): The road to success is always difficult, just like the process of growing a sapling into a big tree. When the user puts down the phone, the trees have a white light that fades in and out, which means they're trying to grow (to achieve success). When the user picks up the phone, the tree shows an orange fade, which means the tree has no input and it going to dies. After 20s, if the user still hasn't put the phone back on the Dock, the tree will show the red light fading out (the tree is dead). This week I simply experimented with different states of buttons to show different lighting effects. Press and hold the button to display a light blue breathing light effect; release it, there will be a dark blue light effect for 2 seconds; press it again quickly to cancel the dark blue light effect immediately. Besides, I have also reduced the power sources of the prototype. Previously it required 2 power sources to work (one for Arduino, another one for wireless charger). Now I extend the wires from 5v2a adapter to provide power for Arduino and wireless charger. Now it looks cleaner than before. before: now: RGB lighting effect: After that, I successfully made the RGB have different effects according to the button state, and I integrated the DFPlayer mini into the component. When the button is pressed, DFPlayer mini will start playing the sound; when the button is released, the sound will stop. When all the components are ready, I start integrating them into a certain size. To be mor...
