IP Week-12 WIP

According to the feedback from my lecturer last week, the tree concept is not related to self-regulation. The concept of a tree goes against my digital artifact because wireless charging is environmental pollution, and a tree is green and environmentally friendly. So, I have to reflect again my initial purpose and think about the design concept again.


And also, lecturers and my classmates said that using the button to trigger the wireless charging is very unstable, so I took the Ron and my classmate suggested using the IR sensor to trigger the wireless charging. After that, I tried it and it worked fine, but somehow it didn't work after a while. I think it's a short circuit.


I kept trying to fix this over the CNY and ended up with the IR sensor broken. So I bought the new one again and it should arrive next week.

Regarding the design,  My idea is to design the charging dock as a lab bed, and when the phone is put down, it means that it is being experimented with. Warnings sounded when the phone was picked up, indicating that the phone had escaped, alerting the user to put their phone back. The wireless charger design should be minimalist.

I tried to change a bit my concept because after I listen to my lecturer's feedback. My lecturer said it's better to have a sound effect when the user is self-regulating. So, I was thinking if the phone dock has 2 modes, one is normal wireless charging, another one is self-regulation wireless charging. Therefore, I can have more sound effects to apply in my product, which are Open SFX, Self-regulation SFX, Warning SFX, and Shut Down SFX. However, after consulting the lecturer, my lecturer said this would be different from what I originally intended.  Because now users have options, they can choose not to use the self-regulation feature. But my purpose is to let people know how to self-regulate. So, I gave up using this concept and using the previous concept. IP Week-11 Choose Design & Concept

Based on two designs from last week, I chose to use trees as my design concept. Concept (Tree):  The road to success is always difficult, just like the process of growing a sapling into a big tree. When the user puts down the phone, the trees have a white light that fades in and out, which means they're trying to grow (to achieve success). When the user picks up the phone, the tree shows an orange fade, which means the tree has no input and it going to dies. After 20s, if the user still hasn't put the phone back on the Dock, the tree will show the red light fading out (the tree is dead). IP Week-10 Prototype 1.0

This week I simply experimented with different states of buttons to show different lighting effects. Press and hold the button to display a light blue breathing light effect; release it, there will be a dark blue light effect for 2 seconds; press it again quickly to cancel the dark blue light effect immediately. Besides, I have also reduced the power sources of the prototype. Previously it required 2 power sources to work (one for Arduino, another one for wireless charger). Now I extend the wires from 5v2a adapter to provide power for Arduino and wireless charger.
